Jesus say of Himself, to be "The Light of the World"; the Gospel of John 8,12. In this declaration Jesus wanted to tell us that in the Messianic times, each believer will be "like a menorah" that gives light into the life of the people, of the world. Jesus is the golden menorah that gives Light to the world!
Not only that, but Jesus told His followers: "you are The Light of the World"; the Gospel of Mattew 5,7. Jesus was speaking to His Jewish followers, that understand very well what Jesus was telling them. They were the menorah's lighted for the people, like the golden menorah that in the past, used to stand in the Temple of Jerusalem.
Jesus wanted to tell us that we are the "new golden menorah" that light's up everywhere we go, and gives light to everyone we meet. Now we are the Light of the World!

You are "the light! of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praiseyour Father in Heaven.
